The gateway to Ravnica lies open before you...
Ravnica is a vast, sprawling city that covers the whole of the known world, made up of lofty cathedrals, squat courthouses, towering apartments, sprawling tenements, cobblestone plazas, and broken ruins where once-majestic buildings have crumbled to rubble. Inhabited by teeming masses of humans, elves, vedalken, minotaurs, goblins, loxodons, and other peoples from across the planes, Ravnica teems with intrigue and adventure, driven by the conflicts among the ten powerful guilds that rule the city.
The ten guilds are the lifeblood of Ravnica, making up the foundation of its society. They are voluntary associations led by guildmasters, but that's the extent of their resemblance to the craft and merchant guilds found on most Dungeons & Dragons worlds. For these guilds hold the very world together and through them the five colours of magic are harnessed, shaping the fates of all who live there.
Ravnica originally appeared as a setting for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Among fans of Magic, Ravnica is one of the most popular settings and its alternative spin on the fantasy genre is appealing to those new to it.
Player Expectations
This campaign will take shape as I get to know the players but will lauch with the adventure: "Kreno's Way" an introductory adventure to Ravnica for level 1 characters. From there the campaign can take two directions; Climb the ranks of one (or more) of the ten guilds, perhaps becoming the next guild master? Or remain an independent group of adventurers in amongst the ever shifting tides of power that shape the eternal city...
Regardless, this campaign will focus on the players choices using the custom adventure toolkit provided with the setting book and my player-centric style of storytelling. Ravnica is a very inclusive setting, just about any character concept from a Sherlock Holmes inspired minotaur, to a club wielding human Barbarian named "Bob" and everything in between has a place in this eclectic nexus of the planes. A nice change of pace from traditional fantasy setings, while still staying true to the spirit of the genre.
Open to new and veteran players alike, diehard MTG fans or those who just wanna play D&D and like the sound of this campaign. I'm happy to coach new players and have a few lil tricks up my sleeve for those who have experience with D&D.
